    In advance of the April PTA meeting, members of the PTA are asked to review the proposed contract for technology instruction with Open Source Kids. A vote will be taken at the April 14th meeting.

    * HELP WANTED *

    As the '19-'20 school year comes to a close it is time to begin the process of planning for the future of the North Star PTA in terms of identifying parent and teacher volunteers willing to serve as an officer or on a committee.

    Officers

    Officers will be elected by the voting membership at the April 14th PTA meeting to serve a two-year term. The following positions will be up for election:

    • President – Preside over the meetings of the PTA; serve as an ex-officio member of committees as needed; act as primary liaison between North Star PTA and NMPTA; coordinate the business of the PTA Board and Membership (set the meeting times and agenda).
    • Vice President of Community (1st VP) - Act as the liaison between the PTA and the North Star community using digital and print communications; keep the NorthstarPTA.com website updated (training available); encourage involvement in all PTA initiatives.
    • Vice President of Membership (2nd VP) – Encourage parents and teachers to become voting members of the PTA; maintain a membership list; ensure that everyone who holds a position and/or wishes to vote is a member in good standing; report the status of our membership to the NMPTA on a monthly basis.
    • Vice President of Revenue (3rd VP) – Focus on opportunities to generate revenue to support PTA programs and initiatives; supports the following committees: Fun Run, Restaurant Nights, Free Money and Community Partners.
    • Secretary – Record and distribute the minutes of PTA meetings, be prepared to read the records of any previous meetings; file all records with NMPTA.
    • Treasurer – Maintain a full account of all PTA funds, make disbursements as authorized, keep accurate account of all receipts and disbursements, provide a financial report at all meetings.

     

    Board of Directors

    Members of the Board are appointed by the Officers of the PTA to serve a one-year term as the chair of a committee. The following committee chair positions are open and in need of a volunteer for the ’20-21 school year:

    • Community PartnersThis committee helps to connect local businesses as community partners with our school. With the support of local businesses we are able to provide additional educational resources for our kids. This position requires a little salesmanship to connect businesses to this opportunity, but we're eager to help you learn and find your groove!
    • One Book One School - Every year we pick one book for the entire school to read together! The week of the book reading has a few activities that revolve around the story of the book. It is a fun and simple time that the entire school is unified on a single project.
    • ReflectionsThis annual celebration of the arts is sponsored by the National Office of PTA. Your involvement in this committee will involve planning and encouraging student participation in a variety of mediums designed to stimulate creativity around a particular theme.
    • Restaurant NightsRecruit area restaurants and coordinate with the North Star community to encourage family togetherness through eating out one night each month with proceeds benefiting the PTA.
    • Stars on StageEach year our school participates in a stage performance that highlights the talents of our students. This committee coordinates with a local theater company to help us, and enlists parent volunteers to organize and support the program.

      A HUGE thank you to our North Star families, teachers and staff that made our first ever Fun Run a success! After the dust settled and all pledges were collected, our PTA raised $32,109.14 to support some of the vital programs and initiatives at North Star.

      Please join us at the December 11th PTA meeting to discuss how we can best put these funds to work!

      From Fun Run Chair, Leslie Gunn:

      We still need help!  

      • Monday, Oct. 14- 7:00-10:00: Help at the pep-rally to greet students with high fives and clapping.
      • Prize patrol - This will take an hour or two to read the daily prize printout, collect the prizes from the teachers’ lounge and deliver to the classrooms. These volunteers will be spunky and excited as they deliver the prizes.  A minimum of one volunteer, but two would be nice.  We have one guaranteed for Oct. 15, 16, 22 & 23.
      • After school, Thursday, Oct 24 we will need help measuring the track and putting flags down.  
      • 6:30 am, Friday, Oct 25- set up the cones on the track, set up sound system.
      • Volunteers to count laps, cheer, build excitement for each of the three run times

      Did you know that North Star has a new activity this year to promote health and fitness? The North Star Wolf Fun Run will take place October 25th during the school day giving every student a chance to walk, skip, dance, ride or run for an extra 30 minutes. Community members encourage student participation by making a financial pledge based on the number of laps a student finishes, and all funds raised benefit our PTA and the vital programs we support. 

       

      Volunteers are needed to help with:

      -Communication Leader- getting the word out through different channels and make sure Booster resources make it home on time.

      -Decoration Leader- decorate the school in preparation for the Event.  Use Booster’s poster-pack and their creative ways to decorate the school for this year’s theme:  Mind Spark Wild West (there is a pinterest page for ideas).

      -Logistics Coordinator- gather pre-program details, organize inventory, print daily reports, and help organize various things. 

      -Team Day Leaders- AKA: Prize Patrol, people who will be involved in the experience, and making each day before the run.

      -Event Day Leaders- coordinate the Event Day-making sure each volunteer is in their place and knows their role , that the day is going according to schedule.

      -Collection Leader- coordinate the collection process of any cash or checks that might come in.

      Did you know that North Star has one of only two All Pro Dads chapters in the entire state of New Mexico? All Pro Dads is a nationwide program where dads (and moms or other caregivers) enjoy breakfast with their kids and engage in meaningful conversations and activities centered around a character-based curriculum. Bring your child(ren) for this fun activity and end your week on a high note!

       Volunteers are needed to help: set up the cafeteria on Thursday evening, clean up the cafeteria after breakfast, collect food items from local businesses, make or bring a breakfast item to share. Head here to RSVP or sign up to help!

      PIE (Partners in Education) Night will take place September 10th in the North Star cafeteria (5:30 pm - 7:00 pm). Pizza and drinks will be available for a small fee, so bring your family and get to know more about the PTA programs and initiatives at North Star!

      The North Star PTA would like to thank the Albertsons on Ventura and Paseo del Norte for donating to our Boo Hoo / Yahoo Breakfast. We hope the parents enjoyed this nice little snack after sending their kindergarten students off to their first day of school!
